A new soup-erb competition will be causing a stir at this year’s Dundee Flower and Food Festival sponsored by local greengrocer Fraser Reid of Frasers Fruit and Veg. The Scotch Broth Championship will be held in the vegetable marquee and will attract soup makers from throughout the area. Recipes vary from region to region, but the broth should contain the following ingredients. Scotch Lamb or Mutton and/or Beef, Barley , Onion, Leek, Turnip, Carrot, Cabbage or Kale Other ingredients may be added. Environment convener Councillor Craig Melville said: “I am delighted that the Dundee Flower and Food Festival is hosting its first Scotch Broth Championship. “The soup is a traditional Scottish dish and I am sure the competition will attract a large number of entries. “I look forward to seeing what this year’s entrants have to offer.” Entries need to be in by September 4rd 2015. The Dundee Flower and Food Festival runs from Friday September 4 to Sunday September 6.
