The Bard of Dundee, Michael Marra, was remembered by the children of Big Noise Douglas when they performed his song “Hermless” at their first community concert, along with members of the Marra family today (Thursday 14 June, 2018) in the Big Top at Douglas Park, Douglas, Dundee.
Almost 300 children from Big Noise Douglas were joined at the Big Noise in the Big Top concert by the Big Noise Raploch Symphony Orchestra from Stirling. Together they performed for the first time in front of an audience of more than 600 families and friends. Alice and Chris Marra also joined the children to perform Michael’s much loved song which celebrates the lives of ordinary people.
Circus performers including a juggler, stilt walker and unicycle from Urban Circus also entertained the crowd.
The Big Noise programme, run by charity Sistema Scotland, uses music to transform the lives of children living in disadvantaged communities. It uses the symphony orchestra and learning a musical instrument, via an immersive and intensive programme, as the tools to equip children with a wide range of social and life skills including confidence, resilience and aspiration.
